How To Sterilize Canning Jars In A Pressure Cooker

How long does it take to sterilize jars in a pressure cooker? That's not just me saying that.

How to sterilize canning jars in a pressure cooker. Hold the jars upright so that the food doesn’t get on the adhesive ring on the inside of the lids. To sterilize bottles and jars for canning, start by washing them with hot water and dish soap, including the lids. Once the water reaches a full rolling boil, begin timing.

According to fda guidelines, while the jars should be clean before starting, they do not need to be boiled to sterilize before pressure canning due to the high temperature levels in the pressure canner. You can use a standard boiling water bath for 10 minutes or more to sterilize jars. Boil the jars for 15 minutes.

Just don’t tightly seal them while steaming inside an electric pressure cooker if you don’t want them to explode. You can sterilize the lids (of your jars) together. Everything else will be good and dead.

Clean your pot with detergent first to remove any dust and leftover debris. Place the rack into the pot. Add the water filled jars to the pot.
