How to upholster a chair bottom. Pull the material up firmly over the edge. Using heavy upholstery thread and a curved needle, sew the two butted folds together invisibly. Slightly lift the nail out to free the existing cording.
The sewn cover is then put back on the chair. It is slightly easier to do this sewing before the fabric is stapled to the back of the chair leg but it doesn' t make a lot of difference. Place a staple at the top of the chair frame.
When reupholstering a chair, you'll first need to disassemble the cushion or the upholstered parts. Measure the chair seat before stitching the needlepoint. Pull the corner of the fabric straight up into the chair as shown.

First, let me tell you that i am not a professional. Fold the bottom up to match the lower edge of the seat, and staple around back if you didn't yet. Put the seat on top of the material and staple or tack at your center marks and a couple of inches to either side.
This chair was the first piece i ever recovered and that was way back in 1974. If using a cover for the back, slip it over the chair back. If the old upholstery is removed and there are no more disturbing clamps or nails in the chair, it can start.
Start this seam in the middle of the back, 1/2 inch from the end of the fabric strip. Fold the panel back over the strip and pull tight toward the bottom of the chair back. I used a thin flat head screwdriver and a hammer to get between the frame and the chair, then i just pried it apart.

If you want to reupholster a dining chair, unscrew the seat from the bottom of the chair and remove any tacks or staples holding the fabric in place. Place your foam and seat on top of your new fabric. Turn the chair over to loosen or remove the previous rope, cord or cane seat.
Adjust the size of the foam cushion as accurately as possible. With the seat facing up and the front edge overhanging the work surface, drive one staple through the bottom to hold the material in place.
